Have you ever been travelling along and suddenly thought: "Where did that last ten miles go?!"

You've been travelling along, controlling the machine, scanning for hazards and doing all those other things you do while riding without giving it any conscious thought.

Your subconscious has been controlling the bike, using all the automatic reactions grooved into your brain by continuous use.

Your subconscious plays a major part in your control of your bike. In many riding situations and especially in traffic, you simply don't have enough capacity in your conscious mind to do all the things that are required of it.

So your subconscious takes over a large number of the riding skills, even the task of looking for and interpreting the threat of hazards. Have you ever thought: "I had a hunch that driver was going to do that"?

In fact, it wasn't a hunch, it was a programmed subconscious that assessed the actions of that driver and alerted you to the danger s/he posed.

The more your subconscious does while you ride, the better you ride, especially at speed. Because your subconscious makes rapid fire, split second decisions and your body will perform action sequences effectively and near flawlessly.

The better your subconscious works, the better you ride. Which may explain why riders with less than six months riding experience crash so much - their subconscious is little programmed in that time and the conscious mind gets overloaded with tasks, leading to mistakes, omissions and get-offs.

The biggest threat to your subconscious and the thing that clogs it up and, in doing so, drastically affects your riding ability, is emotion and mental overload.

That's where cognitive safety comes in. The cognitive safety process programs your psyche to avoid emotional conflict. Thus, it keeps your mind free - free to ride well and free to respond in times of crisis.

We're talking a simple but high level skill here. It works at an emotional level to keep your subconscious tuned to the riding task rather than hijacked by emotion and mental overload.

It is a skill most riders will never have consciously thought about but which, if focused on, can have an astonishingly positive effect on your riding.

It is a skill that is often only picked up disjointedly by chance, but one that is best learnt in a concentrated effort.

For that reason, the MegaRider organisation has written a book that takes you, step by simple step, through the task of learning about and injecting cognitive safety into your riding.

The book and its subject will fascinate you, surprise you (especially after you have progressed through the steps and seen how it improves your riding) and give you a whole new perspective on the task of riding in a hazardous environment.

It comes in a MegaRider ebook called "Cognitive Safety - All-Brain Riding". It costs US$20.00 and it is one the best investments any a rider can make if he wants to always stay in control of his bike at any speed and in hazardous environments.

You can order it on the MegaRider order form page here
