As he made his visual check of his tyres. Peter thought of the purists at his club who argue that a check with tyre gauge etc is required before each ride. Personally he just did a visual check, backed up by a regular check at the air pump at his service station when he refuelled the bike.
Now Peter climbed back onto the bike and checked the mirrors. They had been knocked out of adjustment, probably in the adventure he had with Claire in the garage the other night. Peter knew it was important to adjust the mirrors in order to:
a) comb his hair (and see the neighbour's bedroom window). b) give a good, clear view behind and to the sides. c) to give a view of a sliver of one's elbows and the view to the rear.
